When and by whom was it founded?

Since its founding in 2003 as Turkey’s first civilian survival school, Survival School has earned a reputation for its professional training programs and maintains a high standard of quality.

The Purpose of the HAKA Survival School

Given the significant gap in education regarding living in nature and survival skills in our country, we organize detailed and professional training programs aimed at assisting anyone who ventures into nature and may find themselves struggling to survive with their survival and rescue efforts, and at imparting the fundamentals of basic survival techniques and skills.

"HAKA" Where Does Our Name Come From?

We chose the name HAKA from the first syllables of the words Survival (Hayatta Kalma). HAKA is also the “War Dance” of the Maori people of New Zealand. The Haka dance tells the story of the miraculous rescue of “Te Rauparaha,” one of the Maori’s most important tribal leaders, who, in the 1820s, was awaiting death in a pit where he had fled and hidden from the enemy. Beginning with the words “Ka mate, Ka mate”—meaning “I am dying, I am dying”—the Haka continues with “Ka ora, Ka ora”—meaning “life, life”—which the Maori warrior murmurs when the enemy shows mercy.

In the teaching of the Art of Survival, too, it is not the “Ka mate” (I am dying) mindset but the “Ka ora” (life) mindset that is fundamental. Like the HAKA dance, the Art of Survival is, in fact, a “Dance of the Battle for Life” performed in the face of life-threatening death.

That is where the name of the HAKA Survival School comes from.

"Eagle Eye"

HAKA Survival School conducts its training activities using an approach its founder calls “Eagle Eye.” The goal of this approach is to help students develop a broad and sharp perspective, enabling them to recognize and assess a situation and its objectives even from a great distance.

In addition, in his lessons and explanations, he first identifies the problems and provides the basic information needed to solve them, and then challenges his students in a way that allows them to gain experience in solving problems on their own using that information.

"The only way to escape an ambush is to avoid falling into one in the first place” is a principle that HAKA Survival never compromises on and is the cornerstone of all its approaches.
